This particular photo project was a night exposure assignment. I noticed the reflections in a near dark ambient light section of Monterey’s Lake El Estero. There was so little light that it was impossible to focus or to frame the image in the viewfinder. The ambient light was quite interesting in the final images.

After experimenting with different exposures and compositions, this series was a result of several evening sessions along the lake. Exposures range from 2-4 minutes at f7-f10. The lighting for these images is strictly from ambient light in the early evening hours about an hour or more after sunset. The light sources are ambient light from distant street lights, or some near street lights. Also there are sections that are lit from stray car headlights that sweep across distant parts of the scene. It is quite dark when one first goes out into the area, but after a few minutes one’s eyes adjust, but it is still quite dark. (No flash or photographer’s light was added.)
